About the Author

Dr. Matthew Felgus practices Addiction Psychiatry with an emphasis on helping people heal at his private practice in Madison, WI. As a medical doctor, he has been treating individuals with substance use, abuse and dependence for 28 years. Tapering people off of medication is his specialty. His focus is taking people where they are, and empowering them to get honest with themselves – to wake up and become who they were born to be.

He is Board Certified in both Addiction Medicine and Psychiatry, a past president of the Wisconsin Society of Addiction Medicine, and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). Before he went to medical school, Dr. Matt was a drug counselor and brings that perspective to treatment. He has been lecturing for over 30 years on addiction issues to doctors and doctors-in-training, as well as nurses, counselors, college students, high school and middle school kids, and whomever else will listen.

Matt has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Penn State University, received his MD from Hahnemann (now Drexel) University in Philadelphia, completed a Psychiatry residency at the University of Connecticut, and a Research Fellowship in Substance Abuse at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
